Memorial Garden

Garden of Remembrance

The Windermere Children memorial garden was set up in 2015 in line with the 70th anniversary of the child Holocaust survivors arriving in Windermere on the 14th August 1945.

The garden was also developed alongside the exhibition ‘The Auschwitz Dandelion‘, the Nazi experimental division which specialised in finding a new way of making rubber for their war machine from dandelion sap.

In 2020 the garden was redesigned by Windermere local Jill Gardner who, along with Liz Rice, replanted flowers and plants and put up a new information board to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the children arriving in the Lake District.
