In 2019 an archaeological excavation and survey of the former site of Calgarth Estate was carried out, and led by Professor Caroline Sturdy Colls and Staffordshire University.
The second year of the initiative in 2020 was postponed due to the Covid pandemic although a report and further work is continuing.
An exhibition of some of the artefacts and photographs that were taken at the dig are on display in a room next to the main exhibition at the Lake District Holocaust Project, and will be expanded in the future.
